Launched in February 2003, Ready is a National public service campaign designed to educate and empower the American people to prepare for, respond to and mitigate emergencies, including natural and man-made disasters. The goal of the campaign is to promote preparedness through public involvement.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is an agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security, initially created by Presidential Reorganization Plan No. 3 of 1978 and implemented by two Executive Orders on April 1, 1979.  The agency's primary purpose is to coordinate the response to a disaster that has occurred in the United States and that overwhelms the resources of local and state authorities.

The Salvation Army, Emegrency Disaster Services (EDS)

The Salvation Army responds to numerous natural disasters, transportation accidents, civil unrest situations and terrorist attacks annually.  They provide beverages, meals, and emotional and spirituall care to first responders and survivors. The Salvation Army strives to bring hope and healing to people who find themselves in the midst of extremely difficult situations.

Pipelines 101

What do you know about Pipelines?  Pipelines are energy lifelines, making almost every daily activity possible. Pipelines play a huge role in everyday lives and are essential to the nation's industries. Yet, few people are aware of the work done by the country's  more than 190,000-mile liquid petroleum pipeline network and 2.4 million-mile natural gas pipeline network that delivers the products that are integral parts of America's economy. It is a network that delivers the nation's crude oil and petroleum products (such as gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, home heating oil, and natural gas) reliably, safely, efficiently, and economically.

In times of disasters, colleges and universities serve as key emergency management partners to federal, state, local, tribal, territory and private sector organizations. Institutions are encouraged to review, update and exercise their emergency plans.

Established under Chapter 5502 of the Ohio Revised Code, the Ohio Emergency Management Agency is the central point of coordination within the state for response and recovery to disasters. The primary focus of the agency when not in a response or recovery mode is to ensure that the state, and the 11.6 million citizens residing in it, are prepared to respond to an emergency or disaster and to lead mitigation efforts against the effects of future disasters.

EMAO strives to advance public safety for Ohioans through effective collaborations with local, state and federal partners. The association seeks to build effective emergency management leaders in Ohio by offering education, training and leveraging the professional experience of our membership.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, or FERC, is an independent agency that regulates the interstate transmission of natural gas, oil, and electricity. FERC also regulates natural gas and hydropower projects.

Psychological First Aid for Schools (PFA-S) is an evidence-informed intervention model to assist students, families, school personnel, and school partners in the immediate aftermath of an emergency. PFA-S is designed to reduce the initial distress caused by emergencies, and to foster short- and long-term adaptive functioning and coping.

Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools

Established in October 2004 and administered by the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED) Office of Safe and Healthy Students (OSHS), the REMS TA Center provides a hub of information, resources, training, and services in the field of school and higher ed emergency operations planning. The program supports schools, school districts, and institutions of higher education (IHEs), with their community partners, in the development of high-quality emergency operations plans (EOPs) and comprehensive emergency management planning efforts.

State Emergency Response Commission (SERC)

In 1988, the Ohio General Assembly passed Substitute Senate Bill 367. This law, Chapter 3750 of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC), provides for the implementation of EPCRA in Ohio. The administrative body for the implementation of Chapter 3750 is the State Emergency Response Commission (SERC).

National VOAD, an association of organizations that mitigate and alleviate the impact of disasters, provides a forum promoting cooperation, communication, coordination and collaboration; and fosters more effective delivery of services to communities affected by disaster.

The Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) provides a set of guiding principles for exercise programs, as well as a common approach to exercise program management, design and development, conduct, evaluation, and improvement planning. Exercises are a key component of national preparedness - they provide elected and appointed officials and stakeholders from across the whole community with the opportunity to shape planning, assess and validate capabilities, and address areas for improvement.
